Keep Durham Beautiful to distribute free tree seedlings at Sunday’s Food Truck Rodeo

Keep Durham Beautiful will distribute free tree seedlings this Sunday March 9, noon to 4 pm, while supplies last, with help from Durham County Master Gardener Volunteers. Find us at Durham Central Park at the Food Truck Rodeo!

Anyone is welcome to stop by the Keep Durham Beautiful tent to pick up a tree or to ask tree-related questions. Trees must be planted within Durham County and should be planted right away for best results. The 1200 seedlings have been provided by the City of Durham Urban Forestry Department and Durham County through “Trees Across Durham,” a joint initiative out of the City and County strategic plans.

Persimmon tree seedlings will be one of nine varieties to be given away.
Trees Across Durham is a broad-based partnership dedicated to making Durham a healthier and greener community now and in the future through the planting and protection of trees; the education of tree care-takers and the general public about how to maintain healthy trees; and the measurement and communication of the benefits trees provide to the environment and community. For more information about Trees Across Durham, visit www.tinyurl.com/DurhamTrees.

The 9 varieties of tree seedlings available include:
  • Persimmon
  • River Birch
  • Catalpa
  • Baldcypress
  • Crepemyrtle
